Dixon Middle School Health Teacher = Me!

Yes it's official, I've been hired! I'll start from the beginning.... being that this is my last semester of school, I started applying for jobs clear back in January. And because the plan all a long has been to move to SLC this summer, I applied with Jordan and Granite school districts hoping to find a job up North. Well, a few weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised. The principal from Dixon Middle School called me and asked me if I would be interested in interviewing for a teaching position for next year. Now realize, I first sent out my application/resume in January looking for a job, and 3 months later I got the call. So of course I was interested in interviewing, I was ecstatic. The principal then told me the school was in Provo. Provo??? How did Provo School District get my name/application? To this day I do not know. But long story short, I interviewed and got the job! Yes, staying in Provo for another year was not a part of my plan, but I now know it is a part of someone else's plan, that someone else being the person who knows my plan from beginning to end, someone who has a hand in all things, and someone who gives me great comfort when my plan changes. But, wow... what a huge blessing this job is and will be. Why?
1- The week I got the call, one of the Utah State Legislators came and talked to one of my education classes. She told me flat out I would never find a job teaching only health. She said I had to have a "Plan B" because my "Plan A" would not work out. I was really bummed out... but guess what I get to do next year, teach health and health only! BLESSING!
2- Caleb and I will actually get benefits now! We haven't had any sort of medical benefits since we've been married. BLESSING!
3- It's no surprise that teachers don't make a lot of money but Provo District is actually one of the higher paying districts in the state. BLESSING!
4- In this struggling economy right now, many school districts have hiring freezes. In addition, a lot of first year teachers have been laid off and do not have a job for next year. I was starting to look for jobs at community health centers, but no need to worry anymore! BLESSING!
Okay so if you can't tell yet, I'm so EXCITED. I'm excited to get in the classroom and do what I do best. I'm excited to talk to seventh graders all day long about healthy lifestyles. Nutrition, eating disorders, self-esteem, relationships, teen dating violence, drugs and alcohol, fitness, and the list goes on and on.
Picture my life next year...
